Traffic camera feeds are designed for daylight traffic monitoring, but they're always on. The cameras don't shut off at dusk. At night they switch to whatever ambient light is available — streetlights, building illumination, vehicle headlights, the glow from commercial signage — and the resulting image is grainier and lower-contrast than a daytime feed, but it shows the city in a particular way.

These are residential neighborhoods with modest streetlights and very little foot traffic after 11 p.m. The feeds look quieter and spatially different from the denser northern parts of the borough.
