Times Square is covered by more cameras than almost any other intersection in the world. A portion of those are the NYCDOT traffic feeds that feed into the NYC Live Command Center. They're not the same as the tourist cameras mounted on hotel windows, and they're not the Times Square Alliance's official webcam. They're functional traffic monitoring equipment, and they show something closer to the real Times Square than any curated broadcast does.

During daylight hours the feeds are crowded with people. Times Square sees about 300,000 pedestrians per day on average, and the camera doesn't edit them out. You see tour groups stopped in the middle of the plaza, yellow taxis queuing for fares, delivery trucks double-parked in the bus lanes, and the steady stream of people moving in every direction without any particular coordination.

Several media outlets and tourism sites stream Times Square with a curated camera mounted to capture the big screens and the skyline. The NYCDOT feeds are pointed at the road and the intersection, not the billboards. They're shot from traffic poles and infrastructure mounts at roughly eye level or slightly above.
This means you see street-level Times Square, not the postcard version. You see the actual texture of it: the scaffolding that's always on at least one building, the mix of pedestrians who aren't paying attention to where they're walking, the way traffic actually moves (or doesn't) through one of the busiest intersections in the country.

Other dates that draw heavy live-camera attention include Thanksgiving (Macy's parade routes are covered by nearby feeds), major weather events, and the rare large-scale public events in Midtown that change traffic patterns across the whole area.
