Old Fulton Street is DUMBO's main pedestrian axis. The street descends from the Brooklyn Bridge overpass to the waterfront at a grade that makes it feel separate from the surrounding city. At the foot of Old Fulton Street where it meets the water, Jane's Carousel sits inside a pavilion designed by Jean Nouvel. The 1922 carousel, which was moved to DUMBO from an Ohio amusement park, is visible near the water's edge from the Furman Street camera position. The carousel operates in warmer months and is one of the specific attractions that draws families to this section of the waterfront.
DUMBO's Work Week vs. Weekends
DUMBO has a split personality between weekdays and weekends that the cameras show clearly. Weekday mornings and afternoons show the neighborhood's working population — the technology and media companies headquartered in the converted warehouse buildings produce a steady flow of workers on bike and foot — combined with the deliveries and service activity that supports them.
