Its structural issues — a three-level cantilevered section in Brooklyn Heights that has been under scrutiny for decades — have made it a recurring subject of engineering debates and news coverage. And its position through densely populated neighborhoods in Brooklyn means that every maintenance or reconstruction project generates intense community opposition about impacts.
